About the Author

Dr. William E. Lass is a professor emeritus of history at Minnesota State University, Mankato. In his long Minnesota State University, Mankato career (1960-2002) he taught courses in Minnesota and US history, worked on many campus committees, served as History Department Chairman, and was the founding director of the Southern Minnesota Historical Center and University Archives.

He has written 10 previous books, 40 journal articles and 237 book chapters, dictionary/encyclopedia entries and book reviews. His books include:
