Minnesota State University, Mankato Music and Entertainment Industries Program News Release

MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State University, Mankato's choral groups will perform in concert Sunday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. The concert will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 632 South Broad Street in Mankato.

This performance is the debut concert for Elisabeth Cherland, director of choral activities at Minnesota State Mankato. She teaches courses in choral methods, conducting, and private voice. Prior to her appointment at Minnesota State Mankato, she was a visiting assistant professor of music at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.

When asked about the concert theme, Cherland said, “I'm looking forward to my first concert with these wonderful singers and students and sharing this diverse program with the community.”

Cherland conducts the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, while the University Chorale is conducted by Abbey Guggisberg.

The concert theme is “Hungers.” Leading up to the concert, Cherland and her choir students discussed and explored the different physical, emotional, and spiritual hungers we experience as humans. Each piece on the program speaks to a different hunger like connection, love, joy, and comfort, to name a few. The program features the works of Palestrina, Orlando di Lasso, Melissa Dunphy, Bobby McFerrin, Philip Stopford, Rollo Dilworth, Reena Esmail and others.

Minnesota State Mankato students are admitted free with a valid MavCARD. General admission is $9 and $7 for students (K-12) and all children. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to https://link.mnsu.edu/musictickets or call the Performance Series office, (507) 389-5549.
