Mankato, Minn. – A traveling exhibit titled “RESOLUTE: MN Stories of 9/11 & the War,” created by the Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum, will be on display in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Centennial Student Union Ballroom from Sept. 7-11.

The exhibit focuses solely on Minnesotans and their roles on 9/11 and during the global war on terror. The exhibit is not intended as a recruitment exhibit. Rather, it is put on by historians to show a variety of perspectives on 9/11 events from a Minnesota view.

The exhibit is free and open to the public (public hours listed below). A list of events scheduled while the exhibit is on campus is copied below.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOMENT FOR TEACHERS: Area teachers are invited to join pre-service teachers for free Aug. 25 workshops on teaching about 9/11:

Teachers are invited to join Minnesota State Mankato’s pre-service teachers at two free Aug. 25 workshops (from 9-11 a.m. and from 1:30-3:30 p.m.) designed to help teachers discover classroom-ready strategies and resources that help students understand 9/11 and its ongoing impact.

The two workshop presenters are from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York. They include Megan Jones, vice president of education programs, and Jen Lagasse, assistant director of education.

According to a workshop preview, in addition to building foundational knowledge, this session will focus on concrete strategies and entry points into a variety of challenging content areas, including teaching 9/11 through first-person testimony, the shifting balance between national security and civil liberties, and the rise of Islamophobia.
