Participate in a 25 Hour Fast to help stop hunger in Mankato. Along with other students and student organizations from all over Minnesota State University, Mankato. We will come together to have a life changing experience that will Help Stop Hunger in Mankato!
The 25 Hour Fast is a fun way for students to raise awareness and donations to help support Campus Kitchen at Minnesota State University, Mankato. You seek pledges and/or donations for the time that you will be fasting. Example: Joe will give you $5 for every hour that you fast totaling $125!
You will spend 25 Hours on campus, without eating but keeping hydrated, participating in events on hunger and homelessness awareness, watching movies, in the game room, and having fun!
Your contribution will help raise money to feed children and adults in the Mankato Community!
Campus Kitchen is a non-profit, food recovery program that delivers 300 meals per week to the Mankato Community. The best part about Campus Kitchen is that all of this amazing work is lead by MSU students! Currently there are over 800 student volunteers involved in the program.
With the help of the 25 Hour Fast, students will be able to continue the program for years to come!

There were 7 food drives to help Campus Kitchen Mankato including MSU Faculty and Staff (2), Recognized Student Organizations, Grocery Store, Campus Event, Community, and Protein Drive. A total of approximately 1,700 pounds of food was raised.
150 Clamshells are used per week to serve recovered food and donated food to the Campus Kitchen Mankato clients. During a cooking or delivery shift, 50 to 100 gloves are used to comply with HACCP guidelines. Also, anywhere between 10-40 foil pans are used to recover food from Gage Residence Halls. All of these items are always is short demand. 500 clamshells, 100 foil pans, and 5 boxes of 100 sterile gloves were donated to Campus Kitchen.
Students, Faculty, and Staff that volunteer with Campus Kitchen Mankato use his or her own cars and gas to deliver meals in the Mankato Community. To help compete with the rising gas prices, College of Business Management students raised over $500 in gas gift cards to give to participating volunteers.
Phi Delta Theta Fraternity members volunteered at 3 delivery shifts per week. In return, gas cards were given as a 'Thank You' for their commitment. Instead of using the gas cards themselves, Phi Delta Theta used the gas cards to buy food for Campus Kitchen at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
To recognize the efforts of each volunteer, certificates were made to display the total amount of hours served to use in professional portfolios. Also, an Ice Cream Social was given.

Chartwells and the Gage Residence Hall Dining Services staff were instrumental in the success in the first year of Campus Kitchen Mankato. A total of over 7,900 pounds of food was recovered!
TurkeyPalooza is a national Campus Kitchen Project special program that provides clients with a special turkey dinner for the extended holiday break. Campus Kitchen at Minnesota State University, Mankato added a spin to TurkeyPalooza. MSU Departments and Recognized Student Organizations were asked to help sponsor a family during this holiday break. The money raised was used to purchase turkey, stuffing, corn, potatoes, gravy, rolls, and pies at cost from HyVee North Kitchen. The TurkeyPalooza special program gave all of Campus Kitchen Mankato clients a special turkey dinner and some extra groceries for the extended holiday break.
Four editions of the Campus Kitchen at Minnesota State University, Mankato newsletter, 'The Campus Kitchen Spoonful', were developed for donors, volunteers, MSU faculty/staff/students, and the Mankato Community. Article topics include nutrition information, Gamma Phi Beta Fasting project, hunger facts, College of Business, donors, service-learning, hunger in Minnesota, volunteering information, and the history of the Campus Kitchen Project.

Hunger 101 is an interactive simulation on hunger, targeted to all ages, adaptable to various locations and groups. Each participant is given an identity of someone who is hungry. This service-learning tool was given to a sorority, a recognized student organization, and a high school nutrition class to create awareness about hunger.
The Hmong Student Association adopted the Community Garden to grow fresh vegetables for Campus Kitchen at Minnesota State University, Mankato clients. Donations were given from Drummers Garden Center and Floral and Home Depot. To date, the vegetables grown have given clients the fresh vegetables to eat during the summer months. Project Apple makes sure that no apple in Mankato goes to waste. Apple trees in the Mankato Community are donated to the project and students from Minnesota State University, Mankato and the local high schools will gather a couple of days in the fall of 2006 to pick apples for Campus Kitchen. These Minnesota State University College of Business students are behind Project Apple, a program that will collect apples next fall and donate them to the Campus Kitchens program. Campus Kitchens takes prepared but unused food from the university's residence halls and distributes that food to the area's hungry.
