Hey Everybody!
I’m Jessica Flatequal, program coordinator for the LGBT Center. I proud to say that I’m a native Mankato-an, and MSU alum, and have been on staff at MSU since 2003. I’m committed to student leadership and involvement and want to help every student make the most of their college experience. My passions include social justice and diversity. I serve on the President’s Commission on Diversity and the Student Affairs Diversity Committee. I am also co-chair of the non-profit organization, SCMN Pride, Inc. I live in Mankato with my partner, 2 shih-tzus and cats.

Jumpstart

I am the Jumpstart program coordinator. I recruit college students from various majors and colleges to participate in the Jumpstart literacy program. The program includes an early childhood education and leadership training series for all Corps members. The program builds and develops relationships with community agencies. I Provide coaching and feedback to Corps members based on team observations. I provide Corps members with systematic supervision, support, consistent and responsive communication about their participation in the Jumpstart program.
I am interested in reading, movie watching, video games & sports. I love literacy!!!

I am the program coordinator for Campus Kitchen at Minnesota State University, Mankato. I also help update websites & make office DVDs, etc. I like video production, and making films. I have a younger sister who is a student here at MSU and she is the light of my life!

IMPACT

As the Program Coordinator for the IMPACT team, I help build community and develop leadership skills by advising students who plan campus activities. Born and raised in the Mankato area, I left for awhile to find something more, but realized Mankato has a lot of things going for it. I enjoy adding to what this community already has to offer by helping MSU students organize concerts, speakers, films and bigger events like Homecoming and Spring Events Week. I am very interested in promoting environmentally sustainable initiatives at MSU and throughout South Central Minnesota. I commute by bike as much as possible and am active in supporting Mankato’s local farmers. If you want to get involved with planning campus activities, tune up your bike, or find out where to get the best-tasting local bacon, I’m happy to help!

I supervise professional staff in both Student Activities and Service Learning. I also coordinate the RSO and Non-Traditional Student services, work with leadership initiatives and Off-Campus Housing services. My interests at work include helping students along both their career path and personal development. Outside of work, my two sons keep me busy as does involvement with the Greater Mankato Diversity Council as a Prejudice Reduction Workshop presenter, involvement with my church, and many outdoor activities. I have my private pilot's license, am a high-red belt in Tae Kwon Do, grew up on a remote lake in northern Wisconsin, and am now working at my fifth higher education institution.
