A new incoming freshman from North Dakota who will be attending MSU either the fall or spring directly after graduation from a North Dakota high school does not need to apply for reciprocity. The reciprocity will be awarded automatically. If the new incoming freshman has been out of high school for more than 12 months or has attended another post secondary school he/she does need to apply for reciprocity. A transfer student who is a resident of South Dakota must apply for reciprocity.

South Dakota residents entering Minnesota State Mankato within seven years of graduation from a South Dakota high school and whose parents still reside in South Dakota, need NOT apply for reciprocity.

If you are a current resident of Wisconsin you will need to apply for reciprocity. This includes both new incoming freshman and transfer students. For more information on reciprocity or forms, please visit the Office of the Registrar website.
If you are currently a resident of Nebraska, Missouri, Michigan, Kansas, or Indiana, you can participate in the Midwest Student Exchange Program which grants reduced out-of-state tuition rates at Minnesota State University, Mankato. To obtain the reduced out-of-state tuition, indicate the state of legal residence on the application and the student will automatically receive the reduced rate.
