The physical presence of an individual in the state of Minnesota for a period of not less than one calendar year shall be the minimum basic requirement for the purpose of determining resident tuition status, except as otherwise stipulated in Minnesota Statute. Resident tuition status shall be granted to individuals who meet the requirements of one of the items below and who provide sufficient documentary evidence supported by that item. - I have lived in Minnesota substantially and continuously for 12 months immediately prior to my admission at Minnesota State University, Mankato; and during this period, I have not been enrolled as a full-time student at any post-secondary institution in Minnesota. (attach rent receipts, lease agreement, purchase agreement, deed to home, and/or letter from employer)
- I am the dependent of an individual residing in Minnesota at the time I applied for admission to Minnesota State University, Mankato. (proof of Minnesota residency of parent or legal guardian as in n and proof of dependency, i.e. income tax form)
- I am a Minnesota resident who was temporarily absent from the state without establishing residency elsewhere. (a history of your absence from Minnesota must be submitted along with proof of Minnesota residency)
- I have moved to Minnesota to accept permanent, full-time employment prior to moving and before applying for admission to MSU. (attach a letter on official letterhead from your employer verifying the dates of your employment and number of hours per week that you work)
- I am the spouse of an individual who has moved to Minnesota to accept permanent, full-time employment. (attach a letter on official letterhead from spouse's employer verifying the dates of employment and number of hours per week and a copy of your marriage certificate)
- I am the dependent of an individual who has moved to Minnesota to accept permanent, full-time employment. (attach a letter on official letterhead from spouse's employer verifying the dates of employment and number of hours per week and documentation showing dependency, i.e. income tax form)
- I am a veteran (or the spouse or dependent of a veteran) who lives in Minnesota and have served or am currently serving in the armed forces. A graduate student veteran no longer on active duty must have been released from such service within the last two years before applying for admission to MSU. (attach a copy of your DD-214 or your orders if you are active duty, and proof of marriage or dependency if applying as the spouse or dependent of a veteran)
- I am a student who has been in Minnesota as a migrant farm worker, as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations, title 20, section 633.104, for at least two years prior to admission or readmission to a Minnesota public postsecondary institution, or students who are dependents of such migrant farm workers. (attach Minnesota Migrant Certificate of Eligibility)
- I graduated from a Minnesota high school and was a Minnesota resident while attending that high school. (high school transcript and proof of residence)
- I have been relocated to Minnesota by my current employer. (attach a letter on official letterhead from spouse's employer verifying the relocation, the dates of employment, and hours per week)
- I am a student who is recognized as a refugee by the Office of Refugee Resettlement of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. (attach documentation from Office of Refugee Resettlement)
Non-Resident Special Rates
- I am a resident of Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, or Nebraska and eligible for the Midwest Student Exchange Program. (attach proof that you are resident of one of these states)
- I am a resident of Manitoba, Canada. (attach proof that you are a resident of Manitoba)
