Transfer Student Scholarships

Merit-based, academic scholarship awards are available to new transfer students at MSU. Separate scholarship applications are required after a student is admitted to the university. The deadline for applying is January 15 for high school seniors and March 15 for transfer students.

In-State Tuition Scholarships For Out-of-State Students

Transfer students who meet the following criteria will receive the In-State Tuition Scholarship:

  • Demonstrated academic achievement with a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.5 or greater; and
  • Completed at least 24 semester (36 quarter), but no more than 128 semester, transferrable credits

Legacy In-State Tuition Scholarships may be awarded if one or both of a student's parents, step-parents or adopted parents graduated from MSU the student is eligible to pay in-state tuition rates during their entire time at MSU. Please complete the application below and submit it with required documentation to the Scholarship Coordinator in the Office of Admissions:

Academic Scholarships for Transfer Students

To be considered for the Transfer Scholarships, transfer students must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be attending a two-year community college
  • Have a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 3.5
  • Complete an A.A. or A.S. degree or the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) prior to fall semester
  • Be a U.S citizen or permanent resident

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships: two $500 scholarships will be awarded to select Phi Theta Kappa members based on academic achievement and involvement. To be considered for the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship students must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a Phi Theta Kappa member
  • Have a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 3.5
  • Be attending a two-year community college
  • Complete an A.A. or A.S. degree or the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) prior to fall semester
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Transfer Scholarship Application Deadline

Transfer Scholarship applications must be postmarked by March 15. Scholarship applications postmarked after that date will be considered as funding allows. Scholarship applicants must also be admitted to Minnesota State University, Mankato to be considered for these scholarships.

Departmental Scholarships

Several of Minnesota State University's academic departments award scholarships to upper-class students. Some MSU departments may also offer these awards to new entering transfer students.
