Student Philanthropy Challenge

The Student Philanthropy Challenge seeks to raise awareness of philanthropy on our campus, what it means to be a future alumnus and build support among Minnesota State Mankato's first-year, sophomore, junior and senior students.

You might not realize how you have benefited from alumni and friend gifts. These funds support student scholarships, faculty training and development, department resources, and many other initiatives that enhance your education.

Please see the list of Co-chairs, along with their photos at the bottom of this page.

Why give?

  • To participate and make a difference
  • To have an immediate impact on campus
  • To benefit all students right now
  • To increase the value of your degree
  • To show thanks for an outstanding education and the skills you need to succeed
  • In honor of the life-long friendships you've found here
  • To ensure that Minnesota State continues to be an excellent University for generations to come
  • To know what it means to be a future alumnus

I'm already giving money to the University with my tuition

Tuition covers only a portion of what it costs to run our University, so gifts from private sources are essential. YOU have benefited from gifts made by students who have graduated before you. These alumni and friend gifts have made a difference in the quality of your education and your Minnesota State experience.

How can my gift of $20.12, $20.08, $10, $5, or even $1 make a difference?

Your gift is combined with many other donations and the collective amount does have an immediate and tremendous impact. Your gift does make a difference! Below are some examples; these amounts can go a long way in enhancing your education:

  • If 200 students give $20.08, it equals $4,016
  • If 600 students give $10, it equals $6,000
  • If 800 students give $5, it equals $4,000
  • If 14,000 students give $1, it equals $14,000

What will my money be used for?

You can give your gift to any area on campus. You can also make a gift in honor of your parents or a favorite professor or coach.

Student Testimonials - Why did you give to the Student Philanthropy Challenge?

"I gave to the student philanthropy challenge because I think it is really important to dontate to MN State and increase the value of our degrees. It is also a great feeling knowing that the money I gave will go to improve our school and help others." - Cherice, Nursing major, Senior

"I understand the importance of giving back especially to an institution I will continue to benefit from for the rest of my life. I chose to give to the Mass Communications Department. If I can help my program grow, its value will increase and so will my career opportunities." - Doha, Public Relations major, Senior

"I gave because my school gave to me, it's as simple as that. I have some very special professors who've helped me along the way, and I want to show my appreciation. I also know that the buildings and supplies the school has come from donations, and my donation will help future students with their educations." - Sarah Beth, English, Senior

"I gave to the SPC because of my association with the Annual Fund, and I know how important it is to give back to MN State, because I am a student also, and I know how costly education can be." - Sherry, Manufacturing Engineering Technology major, Senior
