Joleen Durken earned a BS degree in home economics education and a speech minor from Minnesota State Mankato in 1963, and an MS in vocational home economics from the University of Minnesota in 1965. She taught secondary and adult education at Edgerton and Osseo, MN, before being employed by the Minnesota Department of Education from 1967 until her retirement in 1994. At the Department of Education, Joleen managed various programs including secondary, post secondary and adult vocational education, USDA food service for schools & child care systems, AIDS prevention, drug education, school counseling & health and community education. She served on the Minnesota State Mankato Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1971-74, and served as its president in from 1973-1974. Joleen currently serves as president of her senior condo association board, and is a member of the MN Foundation for (career) student organizations and MN 4-H Foundation board. She was married to Dean Durken until his death in 1993. She is dating her high school sweetheart, Lowell Grimm '63.
