Andy Een is a native of Mapleton and a 1943 graduate of Mankato State. He received both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota.
Een has served Mankato State in several capacities since 1958. He has been the Director of the former Wilson Campus School (now Wiecking Center), the Assistant Dean of Education, the Registrar and Admissions Director and Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs. Een has retired as Associate vice President for Academic Affairs at MSU, a post he held since 1974. Prior to his tenure at Mankato State, he had served as superintendent of the Owatonna, Windom and Winnebago schools.
Active in the community as well, Een has served as vice president of the Mankato Area Foundation and the president of his church, the Mankato Symphony board and the Welcome-Memorial Scholarship Program. He is also a past president of the MSU Alumni Association and served as its executive secretary (1958-64).
In addition to his involvement in community and academic affairs, Een maintains interests in music, travel, golf, hiking and reading. He and his wife, Betty Druckenbrod Een, B.S. ‘43 and M.S. ‘66, live in Elysian. They have four children: Andrea, an associate professor of music at St. Olaf College; John, an associate professor and administrator in the New York City University system; Robert, a performer with the Meredith Monk Theatre in New York City; and James, the assistant principal violist with the Sacramento Symphony.
