Ann PetersAnn Peters is a native of Lyon County, Minnesota. She earned her two-year degree in 1929, bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Mankato State in 1942 and her master of arts degree from Columbia University in 1946. She continued her studies at Columbia, receiving her doctorate in education in 1948. After completing her studies and gaining teaching experience in schools in Minnesota and Indiana, Peters moved to New Hampshire to become a member of the Keene State College faculty. During her 24 years at Keene, she advised several student committees, chaired the 1970 Presidential Inauguration Committee and led the drive to establish a student union on the campus in 1964. The 1965 Keene yearbook was dedicated to Ann with the inscription, “She always places student needs first.” She also chaired the Mathematics Department for eight years before retiring in 1972. In 1971 Keene State College honored Peters by naming her as the first recipient of the Keene State Alumni Association’s annual Distinguished Teacher Award. Peters lives in Minneapolis, where she maintains active interests in reading, gardening, politics and volunteer work. She has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Walker Place Residents Association and maintains her ties to Mankato State through membership in the Heritage Club.
