Big Dreams

It's one thing to encourage people to develop solutions and then wish them luck. But it's quite another to give them seed money for transforming ideas into reality.

That's why we want to create Global Solutions Scholarships for incoming and current students at Minnesota State Mankato, as well as Global Solutions Grants for faculty and staff. Both programs will be competitive and aimed at a common goal: Turn dreams into action.

These new scholarships and grants will encourage all members of the Minnesota State Mankato community to think hard, really hard, about how they can make our world a better place. Their solutions can be focused on problems at any or all levels—campus, community, state, nation and world.

Global Solutions Scholarships will be awarded to students not on their past performance, but on their potential and passion for transforming the future. Can you imagine what talents we could unleash and nurture through such scholarships?

We will be saying this to incoming and current students: We heartily welcome your big ideas on how to make this world of ours a more habitable, more congenial home for life on earth. In fact, we will give the scholarship winners a vote of confidence in the tangible form of a future-focused scholarship.

We want to extend the same welcome and vote of confidence to faculty and staff through Global Solutions Grants. We will say this: As faculty and staff, we spend many of our waking hours in this community called Minnesota State Mankato. Could we not spend some of those hours lowering our department walls and working together to solve a particular problem in the world?
