The Verizon Wireless Center (formerly known as the Midwest Wireless Civic Center and prior to that the Mankato Civic Center - the name change took place on Jan. 1, 1999) has served as the home of Minnesota State University, Mankato Hockey since Feb. 3, 1995 when the Mavericks christened the state-of-the art facility with a 6-3 win over Alabama-Huntsville in front of 3,147 fans.

The 1995-96 season marked the MSU men's team first full season in the facility and the Mavericks responded by posting an 11-3-2 home record.

An integral part of the Mavericks' move to NCAA Division I status, Verizon Wireless Center provides many amenities for the teams and the fans alike.

The Verizon Wireless Center has hosted nationally televised events, such as the Riders Professional Ladies Figure Skating Championships and Monday Nitro World Championship Wrestling as well as collegiate, international and professional sporting events. One of the most popular concert sites in the upper midwest, Midwest Wireless Center has played host to such acts as Aerosmith, Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, John Michael Montgomery, Johnny Cash, Kiss, Motley Crue, ZZ Top, Boston, the Moody Blues, Jars of Clay, Disney on Ice and Lord of the Dance.

The multi-functional facility is made up of four components, including a 7,300-seat arena, a reception hall, conference center and a banquet/exhibition hall.

It also features an in-house advertising agency as well as providing sales, catering and security staffing for all events. A short drive from the campus of MSU, Verizon Wireless Center is located in downtown Mankato, on the corner of Hickory and Riverfront.

The civic center holds approximately 4,712 for hockey games (5,000 with standing room only).
