The Conkling Gallery, named after our emeritus professor, Effie Conkling, provides opportunities to enhance the education of our art students and bring exhibitions to the MSU and Mankato communities. We feature professional exhibitions by artists of both national and regional reputation. In addition, the Conkling Gallery is where graduating seniors hold their group exhibitions, and our graduate students mount their thesis exhibitions. This provides an important educational experience for our students as it is often their first exposure to a complete gallery installation.
Vigorous artistic activity is indicative of the cultural health of a community and the Conkling Gallery is proud to contribute to the cultural life and vitality of Minnesota State University, Mankato and the greater Mankato area.
For gallery hours, or specific event times please call the art department office at 507-389-6412.
Nelson Hall was constructed in 1962 and was initially called the Industrial Arts Building. The building was later named in honor of Maurice J. Nelson, distinguished professor of industrial arts who served the institution for 41 years (1918-59). A connecting link from Nelson Hall to Armstrong Hall contains art studios and the Effie Conkling gallery, named for the person who taught art at Mankato State for 32 years.
