Private Loan Self-Certification Process

In compliance with the Federal Reserve and Department of Education rules and regulations effective February 14, 2010, to receive private education loan funds, the borrower must submit a self-certification form to the lender. The lender may send you the form, if they haven't check with your lender or stop by the Campus Hub for further information.
Do not submit the form to Minnesota State Mankato.
How to Complete a Private Education Loan Application Self-Certification Form
Parts of the Self-Certification form may be pre-filled by the lender.
1. Access your Award Notice online at MSU Financial Aid site.
2. Look for “Academic Year Institutional Budget” (This is your Cost of Attendance).
- a. If you are applying for both Fall and Spring semesters, this is the amount that goes on Section 2 line A of your Self-Certification form.
- b. If you are applying for one semester only and were awarded aid for both Fall and Spring, divide this number by 2. This is the amount that goes on Section 2 line A of your Self-Certification form.
- c. If you are applying for one semester only and were awarded aid for one semester only, this is the amount that goes on Section 2 line A of your Self-Certification form.
3. On your award letter look for the line that says “AWARD TYPE”.
- a. If you are applying for Fall and Spring semesters, look for the column that describes your current credit enrollment and add all the aid types underneath both columns on fall and spring with exception of “Other Loan Options”. The result will go on Section 2 line B on your Self-Certification form.
- b. If you are applying for one semester only and were awarded aid for both Fall and Spring, look for your current credit enrollment and add all the aid types underneath this column with the exception of “Other Loan Options”. This result will go on Section 2 line B on your Self-Certification form.
- c. If you are applying for one semester only and were awarded aid for one semester only, look for your current credit enrollment and add all the aid types underneath this column with the exception of “Other Loan Options”. This result will go on Section 2 line B on your Self-Certification form.
4. The difference between amounts A and B will go on Section 2 line C of your Self-Certification Form
