The Minnesota Department of Commerce issues licenses to Minnesota's 87,000 notaries public.

What is a Notary Public?
A notary is a responsible person licensed by the state to witness the signing of important documents.

Why are documents notarized?
The primary reason is to deter fraud. The notary ensures that the signers of the document are who they say they are and not imposters. The notary also makes sure that the signers are entering into an agreement knowingly and willingly. Notaries are not responsible for the legality or accuracy of the document's content and cannot offer legal advice, unless the notary is also an attorney.

Where can I find a Notary Public on campus?

Each of the customer service specialists at the Campus Hub is a licensed Notary Public. The Campus Directory lists additional Notaries Public in the “Offices and Departments” pages.
