Verification is the process by which Federal Income Tax Returns and W-2 forms are collected from students (and parents, if applicable) in order to determine the accuracy of the FAFSA data. Every year approximately 30% of students are chosen for verification by the Federal Processor. However, the institution may also choose to place an applicant into verification. This process can occur before or after a student has been awarded financial aid. Verification worksheets are sent to students to complete and submit along with required income tax documents. Corrections may be made by the school through this process and students are asked not to make further corrections without first consulting Student Financial Services.
