Fitness Certifications and Continuing Education Opportunities

Campus Recreation hosts fitness certifications and continuing education workshops for all community members as an opportunity to enhance skills and knowledge, and increase potential job opportunities in the community.

Certifying Agencies

Aerobics and Fitness Association of American (AFAA)

  • Primary Group Exercise Certification
    • A one-day certification workshop designed to equip those seeking to become certified as group exercise instructors with the competencies needed to design safe and effective group exercise programming for the general healthy population.
  • Personal Training Certification
    • A three-day certification workshop including lectures, practice demonstrations and written and practical exams.  This course will help prepare you for both AFAA's Personal Fitness Trainer Certification and the Personal Fitness Trainer National Boards.

AFAA is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC)

National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA)

  • Group Exercise Certification
    • A one-day exam preparation workshop to gain insight into the basics of teaching group exercise. Exam administered at the end of the workshop.
  • Personal Trainer
    • A two-day exam preparation workshop, which includes 14 hours of lecture, demonstrations, and practical hands-on applications. Workshop participants gain the technical knowledge and leadership skills needed to implement effective, motivational and safe exercise programming for clients. Exam administered at the end of the workshop.

NETA is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
