David Viscoli Biography

David Viscoli hails from Santa Fe, New Mexico and attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. David obtained his Bachelor of Music at the University of Texas at Austin, his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Southern California. David is the most recent recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award at MSU, Mankato, for the College of Arts and Humanities, and is currently Professor of Piano at the university. In recent years, his students have won both first and second prize in the Minnesota Music Teachers Association College Young Artist Competition.
“I am a demanding but fair teacher. I expect a lot from my students, and they are often surprised by what they can accomplish.
I learn from them, as well, and constantly re-evaluate my work pedagogically. The learning process is on-going for all of us.”
Dr. Viscoli is a member of the Chiarina Piano Quartet, the Kasota Piano Trio, and the Viscoli/Rieppel duo and has collaborated with principal members of the Minnesota Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician around the globe, including concerts in Panama, Taiwan, Korea, Austria, Germany, and Canada. He has performed across the United States as well, including many noted universities and music academies. David has participated in numerous music festivals such as Festivál de Música Alfredo de Saint-Malo (Panama), the Aspen Music Festival (Colorado), Minnesota Valley Sommarfest and various music camps
David often receives guest master class instructor teaching requests both nationally and internationally. He participates in competition judging frequently and has performed on radio and television broadcasts throughout the nation. Dr. Viscoli has won awards from both national and international music competitions.
Currently, David is preparing to play a solo recital program around Minnesota, and in Kentucky, California, and Texas. He is also looking at new repertoire for duo, trio, and quintet concerts next year. Dr. Viscoli has finished recording half of a new CD of Rachmaninoff etudes and in the next couple of years, hopes to record the second half and release a new CD on the Eroica label.
