On-Campus Recruiting

Page address: http://www.mnsu.edu/cdc/employers/ocr.html

On-campus recruiting is a great way for employers to connect with our students. It enables employers to share information about their business/industry in general or to interview candidates that meet the qualifications for your job and internship opportunities. All employer visits are advertised to students through a listing on our website and on mavjobs.com, as well as with posters and emails to students.

There are three main types of on-campus recruiting at Minnesota State, Mankato.

INFORMATION SESSION:

Shaking Hands

Information sessions allow employers to meet with a group of students for a presentation or informal get-together to share information about your company’s opportunities and business culture.

Some employers choose to set an information session a couple of weeks in advance of their on-campus interviews to generate student interest and response to their job postings. Other recruiters choose to hold their information session the day before their on-campus interviews to share basic information about the employer, thus allowing them to spend the interview time focusing on the strengths of the candidates being interviewed.

Regardless of the timing of the event, it’s a great way to meet students and build a presence on campus. Information sessions generally take place in the Centennial Student Union (on a space-available basis), and when sponsored by the Career Development Center there is no charge to the employer for use of the space.

To request an information session, click on the “Request New Info Session” link under the Shortcuts section of your mavjobs.com employer home page.

TABLE ON MAV AVE:

Mav Avenue is a high traffic area for students located between University Dining Services and Barnes & Noble Bookstore on the first floor of the Centennial Student Union, offering employers the opportunity to meet informally with students one-on-one as the student’s time permits. Recruiters may reserve space on MavAve between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm on a space-available basis.

To request a table on MavAve, contact Brenda Garbers, Recruitment Coordinator, at 507-389-6063.

ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEWS:

On-campus interviewing is typically open to employers who are eligible for Full Access and are filling degree-required jobs and/or internships. Employers meeting this criteria have access to the following services:

  • An account on mavjobs.com for posting jobs and internships, searching resumes, prescreening applications, requesting online schedules, and receiving application materials online
  • Advertisement of job postings listed for on-campus recruitment through the CDC's web site and other job posting tools
  • On-campus interview scheduling, including use of the CDC's interview rooms up to twice per semester
  • Set-up and room use for on-campus information sessions
  • Free parking when on campus for interview and information sessions
  • Courtesy lunch with CDC staff and/or faculty when on campus for interview sessions
  • Notification of upcoming career fairs and other recruitment opportunities on campus

To request on-campus interviewing, click on the “Create New Schedule Request” link under the Shortcuts section of your mavjobs.com employer home page. Have questions about successfully recruiting on campus?
