2002-2003 Graduate Statistics

Overview

Each year, the Minnesota State Legislature asks that MSU gather information on the status of our graduates. Summarized responses to this survey provide current and prospective students with information useful for selecting major programs and determining job markets. A summary report is also shared with MSU faculty and posted on our website but individual responses are held in confidence. The Class of 2002-2003 (July 2002, December 2002, and May 2003) was contacted in print format, online, or by telephone with a response rate of 91.4%. Data is based on the total number of graduate majors (2467) rather than the number of graduate awards (2391) or the number of individuals (2379).

The numbers are in! 78.1% of those available for related employment obtained field related full-time or part-time positions and 10.9% continued their education for a "placement rate" of 89%.

Of the total graduate majors available for related employment:

• 67% obtained related full-time employment
• 11% found related part-time employment
• 17% accepted unrelated employment while still seeking related employment
• 5% were available for work/unemployed.

Location of Graduates Employed in Related Fields

• 83% remained in Minnesota
• 16% located out of state
• 1% did not identify their employment location.
