What is sport and performance psychology?
Sport psychology, as defined by the American Psychological Association (Division 47), is the scientific study of psychological factors that are associated with participation and performance in sport, exercise, and other types of physical activity. It can be used to instruct athletes, coaches, teams, and other performers on the psychological factors associated with their activity. With the implementation of psychological skills, athletes and performers can optimize their performance and enjoyment.
Who can benefit from sport and performance psychology?
Athletes, coaches, teams, exercisers, parents, fitness professionals, groups, and other performers can reap the benefits- anyone who wishes to enhance their performance and make positive life changes!
What brings people to the Center?
People who come to the Center for Sport and Performance Psychology want to reach their full potential. They want to go from “good to great.” They want to get better at using their mind to their full potential. They find that our work together increases their motivation and confidence, provides the ability to regulate emotions, improves focus and attention, enhances the use of productive and powerful thinking, and provides a roadmap for the future and how to get there.
What is the difference between sport and performance psychology and therapy?
The main difference is that sport and performance psychology focuses on performance enhancement rather than personal challenges or abnormal behavior. At the Center, we work to help people be better than they were yesterday in all areas of their performance.
