Sport psychology, as defined by the American Psychological Association (Division 47), is the scientific study of psychological factors that are associated with participation and performance in sport, exercise, and other types of physical activity. It can be used to instruct athletes, coaches, teams, and other performers on the psychological factors associated with their activity. With the implementation of psychological skills, athletes and performers can optimize their performance and enjoyment.
Athletes, coaches, teams, exercisers, parents, fitness professionals, groups, and other performers can reap the benefits- anyone who wishes to enhance their performance and make positive life changes!
The main difference is that sport and performance psychology focuses on performance enhancement rather than personal challenges or abnormal behavior. At the Center, we work to help people be better than they were yesterday in all areas of their performance.
Each person’s needs are unique and we each have different needs and goals. Information will be gathered during the first session to create customized plan options for each person to best achieve their goals.
