FACULTY TEACHING WITH TECHNOLOGY LEARNING COMMUNITY (all year)-- Open to ALL MSU faculty and teaching assistants.

This program, new this year, will be facilitated by our new instructional designer at CETL, Linda Jacoby. Faculty who register are placed in small communities of between 6-10 from various disciplines based entirely on when they are available to attend. Sessions are held, on average, once each month, for a total of 90 minutes each session. Topics will mirror those of the FTCP program above but with emphasis on the use of technology. WRITING IN THE DISCIPLINES LEARNING COMMUNITY (all year)-- Open to ALL MSU faculty and teaching assistants.

This new Learning Community is available to support faculty who want to implement writing intensive courses, who already teach writing courses, or are interested in learning new techniques to improve student writing. The Learning Community will focus on writing intensives and provide aid in encouraging writing across the curriculum. The facilitator is Kirsti Cole, a new faculty member in the English Department and CETL Fellow. Participants will work with the facilitator both in groups and one-on-one. WID will meet once a month for 90 minutes. See attachment or contact CETL for more details.  Deadline to apply is September 5, 2008.

TEACHER EDUCATION FACULTY LEARNING COMMUNITY (all year)— Open to ALL MSU faculty and teaching assistants.

This community consists of faculty who deal with teacher training in their department.  Participants meet on average once each month for 90 minutes to discuss issues of importance.  It also brings together faculty who work with students who plan to become teachers.  For more information contact CETL.  Deadline to apply is September 51, 2008.

RUBRIC CREATION FACULTY LEARNING COMMUNITY (fall semester only)-- Open to ALL MSU faculty and teaching assistants. FREE BOOK ON RUBRIC CREATION FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS.

Faculty will learn about using rubrics for assessment in their class and receive a free book on rubric creation.  They will also meet on average once each month during the fall semester to learn about and discuss ways to develop and implement rubrics for their classes.  Each participant will receive a free book on rubric creation.  Deadline to apply is September 5, 2008.

TEACHING ONLINE LEARNNG COMMUNITY (all year)— Open to ALL MSU faculty and teaching assistants.

This Learning Community will discuss designing, planning, converting, implementing and managing a course in a cyberspace environment. Location and format will depend on whether faculty interest is in meeting online or face-to-face (F2F). If enough faculty are interested in both, we can have both online and F2F groups. Judith Luebke and Linda Jacoby will serve as facilitators and/or co-facilitators of this learning community. For more information, contact CETL for more details.

VIRTUAL REALITY LEARNING COMMUNITY (all year)— Open to ALL MSU faculty and teaching assistants.

This learning community is an exploration into future-oriented virtual learning technologies, including gaming, VR labs, Second Life, etc., exploring trends, theory, research, pilot projects, evaluations, barriers, and hardware and software issues.
