Greetings from CETL!

Another semester is upon us as we gear up for another 15 weeks of great teaching and learning experiences. We continue to work hard at the Center to provide aid to our 600+ faculty. This semester is particularly busy for us with initiatives we are planning along with those we are attempting right now.

The exciting news is we have nearly 50 faculty involved in one of four Faculty Learning Communities. Three groups are reading a book titled "Creating Significant Learning Experiences" and another is reading "Classroom Assessment Techniques." Each faculty member received the book free of charge for volunteering to be in the group. All groups meet 8 times during the semester. This is a great way to improve communication and understanding among our faculty while learning about teaching issues. Our goal is to continue and expand this program next year.

At the same time, we continue to offer peer faculty consultations. We currently are working with 14 requests by faculty. Sometime between the 8th and 12th week a peer faculty consultant will visit the classroom, observe the class, talk to the students and report back to the professor. We had a great group of consultations last semester. Go to peer faculty consultations on this website to read some of the wonderful comments made by faculty who had a consultation.

We also have our new faculty workshops continuing this semester, every other week at noon on Thursday or Friday. The new faculty have had ample time to meet one another, with a terrific potluck dinner at the end of fall semester--President Davenport even brought a huge pot of his famous chili.

Take a look around our website for other activities available to faculty. Please contact us with questions or concerns and ideas for future activities. And bookmark this website so you can refer to it often!
