Hello from CETL,
What a great year of teaching and learning we will have at MSU! Our many programs are full and we are just putting the finishing touches on schedules. Here is a run down on our initiatives for 2005-2006.
1. The Faculty Teaching Certificate Program has over 70 faculty and teaching assistants formed in 7 different groups. The participants will meet all year to discuss and work through teaching/learning topics. Each participant will have a peer faculty consultation and will complete a final project that can be used with a course. For more information look on our website.
2. The Faculty Teaching Certificate Program II has 20 faculty and teaching assistants formed in 3 different groups. This Program is a continuation of the Certificate Program begun last year. The participants will meet all year to discuss and work through teaching/learning topics not addressed in the first program. Each participant will have a peer faculty consultation and will complete a final project that can be used with a course. For more information look on our website.
3. We again will have mentoring as a major initiative from CETL. We have 29 mentors and 29 mentees who have been matched. These pairs will have meaningful dialogue during the year about teaching and learning and many other subjects.
4. New this year is a Department Chairs Learning Community. We have 23 chairs meeting in three different groups during the year to share ideas and concerns.
5. Our Feminist Issue Learning Community continues to meet, now in it's second year. This is a group of 14 faculty who meet regularly to discuss topics related to feminist issue in teaching and learning at the university. This group was made possible by a grant from the statewide IFO.
6. We are in the process of planning another Faculty Learning Community that will read the book, "Classroom Assessment Techniques" by Angelo and Cross. The participants will try these techniques in the classroom and report back to the group. Each participant will receive the book free of charge for participating.
7. We are continuing our peer faculty consultation program this year. A trained group of faculty are available to work individually with faculty, visiting the classroom and talking to students in classes.
As you can see, we have a full array of activities for MSU faculty. Besides this many programs, CETL co-sponsors the "Wireless and Teaching Technology Conference" on campus on November 8th and another teaching/learning conference on campus on February 17th. Other workshops will be scheduled as the year progresses.
