2008 Combined Charities Campaign: October 1 - 31

The Combined Charities “Kickoff for Charity” event was held from 11:30 AM to 1 PM on Wednesday, October 8.   A Greater Mankato United Way representative was present along with the Executive Director of Partners for Affordable Housing, Inc. (a.k.a. Welcome Inn).   Those MSU employees who dropped off their yellow drawing registration tag enjoyed a donut or two as well as free coffee and cider – no free lunch, however. 

Organizations who donated kickoff event prizes are to be praised for their good will.  Here’s what was up for grabs:

  • Innovative Office Solutions - Giant gift basket full of office supplies.
  • MM Vending (Mike LaVigne) – Six $50 MavCash credits.
  • Intercollegiate Athletics – Four Mav Pack General Admission packets and two 4-reserve ticket sets for any regular season Men’s Home Hockey Game.
  • Barnes & Noble Bookstore – Six $50 gift certificates.
  • Theatre & Dance – Three sets of two tickets each for the play “Harvey”.
  • Combined Charities – One t-shirt.
  • Greater Mankato Area United Way – Three t-shirts.
  • University Square Retailer - Planet Beach guest passes.
  • University Square Retailer – Cold Stone restaurant coupons.

The state-wide campaign doesn’t end until October 31st so we have time to beat our October 2007 performance – coming in 3rd last year of the four year MnSCU institutions was “nothing to write home about.”  The MSU Combined Charities Committee volunteers continue to believe that Minnesota State Mankato employees recognize the hardship that local non-profit community service agencies are facing and will respond accordingly.
