Nadine B. Andreas Graduate Teaching Assistantship

The Graduate Faculty Committee of the Speech Communication Department shall select annually a graduate student to be named the Nadine B. Andreas Graduate Teaching Assistant. This selection shall be made no later than March 1 of the year preceding the award. The name of the selected student shall be forwarded to the Department Chair, who will then forward that information to the Dean of the College. Once the Dean confirms the award, the Department Chair shall notify the recipient of the award. This award will be for one year, and will include a standard university stipend (for 2007-2008 the amount of the stipend is $9,000.00) and tuition waiver.

The recipient will be selected based on the following criteria:

1.      Satisfactory academic performance in the Speech Communication Department graduate program. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students with GPAs above the minimum and no Incomplete grades.

2.      Demonstrated success as a scholar/performer

3. Preference will be given to 2nd year Graduate Teaching Assistants. If a 3rd year GTA is selected, that student must be in the MFA program

4. Preference will be given to GTAs with professional interest in continuing to do creative performance work (coaching, performance studies Ph.D., a creative thesis project, for example) in the future.

Recipients will continue to serve as Graduate Teaching Assistants during the award year. Recipients will be officially designated as the Nadine B. Andreas Graduate Teaching Assistant in Speech Communication for that award year. Recipients will receive the award for only one year. Recipients will be expected to take part in a public presentation during their award year and to acknowledge in writing to the Andreas family the receipt of the award.
