DEPARTMENT OF SPEECH COMMUNICATION
Minutes – March 21, 2007

The faculty of the Department of Speech Communication met at 12 Noon on Wednesday, march 21, 2007, in MH 215.
Relay for Life: April 14th / 6 p.m. to April 15th / 6 a.m. As of this date, there are 26 teams signed up. Christa Brown encourages all faculty and TAs to attend.
Internship Hours/Credit: Faculty agreed to not change the hours/credit.
One (1) credit = 30 hours of internship work.
Health Communication Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate Program: Faculty were updated on this preliminary proposal. This will discussed further at a future faculty meeting.
Communication and Technology Interdisciplinary Minor: Faculty were updated on this preliminary proposal. This will be discussed further at a future faculty meeting.
Audio Technology Course: Faculty were updated on this proposed course. Faculty felt David Engen should develop this course for a future curriculum offering.
Speech 485: Senior Seminar/Portfolio Findings: Portfolio findings are indicating students are weak in communication technology, resource citing and in-length research writing Students taking David Engen’s courses are much stronger in the communication technology area.
GE Category 1C Report: The report was distributed by e-mail to faculty prior to the meeting. Discussion:
- English 101 should be a pre-requisite for Category 1C
- Develop a Speech upper-level writing intensive course. Curriculum Committee
to discuss requiring Speech majors to take upper-level writing intensive course.
Faculty Searches:
Communication and Culture Position: Offer lettering mailed to candidate.
Applied Organization Position: Failed Search. Meeting will be scheduled to review current job description.
Fixed-Term 2007-2008 Position: Deadline was March 15th.
Program Review/Outside Reviewers: Department needs to forward to the Dean two names and justification for these outside reviewers. Reviewers ranked as follows:
