The faculty of the Department of Speech Communication met at
March 22, 2004 in AH 314.
Communication and Mass Media Database Trial: John reported that Kathy Piehl, Reference Librarian, notified him that the Library has a database trial available until April 27th for the Communication and Mass Media Database. Please visit this trial database and e-mail John or Kathy Piehl regarding its usefulness.
To get to the database, click on the Database Trials link on the right side of the Library home page: lib.mnsu.edu Then you can click the link to the database itself.
The user name is s4200124 and the password is trial.
Revisiting/Revising Faculty Search Process: Kathryn Cady accepted the Rhetoric position and will be joining the department during the 2004-2005 school year.
In the past the Chair of the Personnel Committee and the Chair of the Search Committee has been the same person. The faculty will discuss further if this should be changed.
Personnel: Dan
has requested that the Personnel Committee evaluate him as Chair of the
Department of Speech Communication.
Forensics Showcase:
The showcase is scheduled for
GAC (Graduate Advisory Committee): Nicole Schultz announced that the GAC will be preparing the paperwork to apply to be a recognized student organization on campus.
End-of-the-Semester Luncheon: Dan will work with Kathy to schedule a day during finals week for the luncheon. The invitation will be sent via e-mail.
Speech 485-Senior Seminar Portfolios: Dan shared with the faculty that he is finding that the students in Speech 485 have many reflection-based papers and no theory-based papers in their portfolios. Dan stressed that students need to incorporate more theory into their papers.
D2L Training:
Reminder of the D2L training scheduled
Process and product(s) of the MS Internship: The faculty agreed that the students pursuing a MS: Internship Option must complete the following:
- Internship Report Paper
- Present Internship Report at Department Colloquium
- 1 internship credit = 30 hours of work
- Complete an Internship Oral Defense
The faculty agreed with the increase of graduate students pursuing the Internship Option that the department has an Internship Coordinator. The Coordinator should be a probationary/tenure track faculty member. This item will be discussed further at a future faculty meeting.
