DEPARTMENT OF SPEECH COMMUNICATION

 

Minutes – December 1, 2004

 

 

Present:  Christa Brown, Kate Cady, Dan Cronn-Mills, Jim Dimock, Lou Eckert,                         David Engen, Martine Harvey, Nan Johnson-Curiskis, Brian Klosa,                                Kristen Treinen, Leah White

               GAC member:  Amy Wolff

 

The faculty of the Department of Speech Communication met at 12 Noon on Wednesday,

December 1, 2004, in  MH 215.

 

Mankato Convention and Visitors Bureau:  Kate Winkels distributed materials to all faculty.  She presented an overview of the services provided and made note of the upcoming activities of the department.  Kate encouraged the faculty to contact her to assist the department in future event planning by returning the attached card in the MCVB brochure that was distributed.

 

Faculty Search Process:  Dan sent the finalized Notice of Vacancy to all faculty via         e-mail.  Please send to all interested individuals. 

 

Update on Equipment Purchases:  All equipment has arrived except the digital camera.

 

Update on Spring 2005:  Dan reviewed the Spring 2005 schedule.

 

Department Holiday Gathering:  Reminder Sunday, January 16th, 4 p.m. at Warren Sandmann’s home.  RSVP to Kathy.

 

Good News: 

 

- Sheryl Dowlin’s Farewell Gathering is scheduled for May 8, 2005

- Adult Dodgeball – Begins mid-February / 45 minutes each Thursday evening.

            Contact Dan if interested.

 

Other:

- PDP Reviews:  Nan reminded faculty that PDP Reviews are upcoming.  Please arrange

            a time for a class observation.

 

- Brian Klosa:  Working with TAs in Speech 102 Tutoring:  Brian is very interested in    working with the TAs in tutoring Speech 102.  This would be hands-on practical             experience for the TAs.  The faculty supported Brian’s request and felt the tutoring should be tied to a course, perhaps Communication Pedagogy.  Dan will

            be the supervising faculty member.
