Jan. 9, 2011

Present; Gregg Sawyer, Jody Saxton West, Diana Rehling, Mark Quinlan, Margaret Kitterman, Kathy Ebnet, Kris Kracht, Scott Durocher, Mark Fokken (via Skype)

  1. Call to order
  2. Welcome and Introductions—welcome to Kris Kracht!
  3. Approval of Minutes: none presented
  4. a: President’s Report: Scott shared that critiques from CTAM 2010 were mostly positive; we discussed one presenter’s frustration when she prepared a session and no one came to hear it, but feel that may be unavoidable. This year’s Session Proposal form will also have a space for a “wish list”—a session you’d like to see, but can’t present yourself.

B. Past President’s Report: Mark F. shared via Skype that we had close to record numbers at the conference in 2010, thanked Scott and Larry for their support. We discussed ways to make the BOG more visible to the membership, perhaps via pictures on the webpage or a denotation (logo, ribbon) on our nametags at CTAM 2011. We considered having a BOG member at each table at lunch for a “listening’ opportunity. We also talked about CTAM representation at the EdMN booth at the State Fair, how to improve our visibility as an organization (games, giveaways, T-shirts for staff), as well as recognized that while CTAM has colleges and private schools in its membership, EdMN is not necessarily supportive of those organizations.

C.  Treasurer’s Report: Larry sent a report via email on 1/5/2011. We highlighted his request that each BOG member find a way to get sessions to CTAM 2011. We also discussed a proposed institutional membership, considering at length what benefit such a membership could offer various groups (high schools, colleges, private sector). Gregg suggested the Executive Board discuss this further.

D. Historian’s Report: nothing to report, all is safe on the third floor

E. Journal Editor’s Report: no report

F. Newsletter Editor’s Report: report via email soon

G. BOG Member Reports: Diana shared her frustration with Central States/NCA, and her respect for the work CTAM does. A separate handout was given. Diana asked for consideration of adding a College Theatre seat on the CTAM BOG; we discussed the equity of the seats that are available in meeting the needs of all stakeholders. This issue was sent to Executive Board. Diana submitted her resignation to CTAM; we thank her for her years of service.

H. Gregg shared META updates, including their Facebook page, website launch (May 1), new logo. He also shared info about the upcoming Spring Forum, and the K-8 Forum that will be held. Jody shared a concern about the number of speech/theatre/debate programs that are under scrutiny in light of budget reductions, and asked the Board to consider ways that we might offer support to those programs as they fight to save themselves. The NFL website and NCA/Central States may have resources we can share. Mark Q. celebrated the 3rd annual MN Thespian Festival at the Guthrie. Margaret and others from the central part of the state have created a judges’ training DVD. Those interested in a copy can send Margaret $10 and she will mail it out. Kathy expressed concern about program cuts, about some sections charging for One Acts, and the lack of certified One Act judges in the NE. We discussed the idea of bringing community college theatre folks into the judging ranks to alleviate some of this issue.

5. Personnel: President-Elect: Gregg Sawyer suggested that Rebecca Meyer-Larson and Tracy Hagstrom-Durant would be excellent candidates for the Position of President-Elect. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor at our fall meeting.

6. /7. CTAM Awards: No nominations have been received for the awards.

8. Convention 2011 Update: For the 2011 CTAM conference, we wish to encourage new voices to step up and present sessions. Please seek out those new voices around you!

9. Selection of 2010 Site: The BOG recommends the 2012 conference be help in St. Cloud, MN, at the Holiday Inn.

10. Website Logo: Daniel Cronn-Mills (via email) requested that the analog CTAM logo be converted to digital, and possibly redesigned. Gregg suggested Kris Holsen from Birch Grove Elementary.

11. Adjourned.
