Currently finishing a dissertation exploring peace movement discourse, specifically by Cindy Sheehan in the current Iraq War. The project looks at how different communicative forms (such as letters, autobiographies, and blog/internet) are used to build movements and further (or not) movement goals. The project traces histories of these forms (specific to women's movements) to understand what the forms enable for movement actors.
Rhetorical conditions for student activism, peace movement rhetoric, fcritical university studies, feminist theory.
Freedom of Speech, Rhetorical Theory, Rhetorical Criticism, Leadership Theory, Small Group Communication.
During my graduate program at the University of Minnesota, I have been involved with a collective of graduate students producing two conferences on the politics of the university: "Rethinking the University: Labor, Knowledge, and Value," and "Reworking the University: Visions, Strategies, and Demands". I have also been involved in organizing free community education through a program called the Experimental College of the Twin Cities (www.excotc.org).
