COURSE POLICIES:
1. Students must present original work and must
always document material drawn from other sources. Students are expected to
research and prepare their own work when submitting written assignments,
outlines, or presenting speeches. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Any
incident of plagiarism will be reported to the Department Chair and will also
result in a failing grade in the course.
2. The primary purpose of this course is to
allow students to improve their oral communication ability. Thus, the majority
of time in this course will be spent in the preparation, presentation, and
evaluation of speeches. Students should not expect much class time will be
spent in lecture or discussion of the reading assignments. It is, therefore,
the responsibility of the student to do all reading assignments on time.
3. All written and oral assignments, including
exams, are to be completed by the date assigned. Late assignments are not
accepted. In the case of an emergency or serious illness, contact the
instructor prior to the due date of the assignment, or as soon after as possible.
4. Because this is an applied communication
course, it is imperative students attend class. Lectures, activities, and other
student speeches are a part of the learning process. Attendance will be
monitored. Failure to attend class on a regular basis, or to be an active and
responsible participant in class will result in a diminished final grade.
5. You will be expected to hand in homework as
assigned. It will be done to acceptable collegiate standards. You need to hand in homework on time, avoid
plagiarism of any kind by fully documenting sources of information; cleanly
type or e-mail your work, and follow acceptable style guidelines for written
work.
