The "Unwritten Rules" in high school speech competition

All speech judges have their personal preferences for adjudicating various events. However, at times, those preferences crossover and are used as rules for what students must or must not do in their performances. This panel will illuminate many of these "unwritten rules" and attempt to determine their appropriateness and usefulness in speech competition.

What's a POI: Preparing high school students for Collegiate Forensics

The purpose of this roundtable is to facilitate a discussion on how to prepare high school students for the transition into college forensics. Various stages of coaches will be participating, allowing for a variety of voices and opinions.

The State of the State of Minnesota Speech and Communication Curriculum

Discussion at Speech Professionals Across Minnesota (SPAM) conventions and discipline workshops within the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities ( MnSCU) system have focused on the identification of college speech and communications course offerings and curriculum. This session will present the current course and curricular offerings of MnSCU colleges and universities in Speech and Communication departments. Discussion will include application of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, common course outlines and competencies and curriculum concerns at the college level.

A roundtable discussion on current trends in graduate student research.

The purpose of this session is to illuminate popular trends within graduate student research. The panel will conduct a roundtable discussion of both their research and any audience members' research. Hopefully by prompting discussion, further issues and directions will be highlighted.
