What exactly is the theory behind why AAF helps people who stutter ? The version I've heard is that it corrects a problem in how we hear our own voice. The problem with that theory for me is that I have trouble getting started speaking and I'm not making any sound, so I can't be having an auditory problem. Do you see what I mean ? Once I get started, an AAF device can help me, which I attribute mainly to the choral reading effect. Now I've heard that SpeechEasy advises new customers to get some sound going first, a soft "aahh". But, isin't that kinda cheating, from the view of the theory ? What do you think ?
