Hi! I am a graduate student currently taking a fluency course and we have studied in depth the personal construct theory, which I believe is the foundation for your essay. In short the theory suggests that individuals base their future on past experiences (i.e. I’ve always stuttered therefore I will continue to stutter, I have been fluent in the past I will be fluent in the future). From your essay it seems that you were your own catalyst in creating positive opportunities in which to base future success. I was wondering what advice you might have to clinicians regarding ways to create opportunities for clients to achieve a positive personal construct? Thank you in advance. Shannon Somerville
