Both types of locus can be damaging. If the circumstances (external or internal) hamper excessively the achievement motivation of an internal person, he might develop neurotic disorder. From another hand, if someone with external LOC never makes any consistent efforts, he also can develop disorder or would just be pushed out in the periphery of the social system. I think one Self – actualized person encompasses both locuses, as consciously moves from the one to the other according to the situation, circumstances and his own will. I think that the LOC is only partially stable personal trait, but also varies depending of the present state of mind of the person.
