I am a graduate student in my first fluency course. It has been in our class discussions how according to Van Riper's MIDVAS, that motivation is most important to treatment success or failure. Further, according to Kelly's Personal Construct Theory that it is crucial that the client realizes that he/she has choices to make among many alternatives and takes on responsibility for his/her actions. Your paper added another layer of perspective on this, for me. In reflection on your paper, I can see how for an external both motivation and responsibility for choices and actions would be a considerable challenge. In previous posts you mentioned how it is possible that PWS could be external in social settings but internals in their depths. Regardless, do you think it is essential for success in Fluency, for PWS to have an internal locus of control? Has there been any studies done comparing treatment outcome with PWS, who are externals verses PWS, who are internals? - Thank you
