The core of the internal locus of control is the motivation for success, for growing, for improvement. In every instant one makes choices – on cognitive and on behavioral level. In the core of each choice – decision, stays the free will. In the core of the free will is the the motivation for achievements strength ! So, the Locus of Control with its core factor – the inner motivation, seems to be really important psychological construct going beyond the initial understanding of its creator – Rotter… Of course, as I have noticed, the western psychology with very slow pace grows and repeats again the findings of the ancient transpersonal psychology. There is a joke about a guy, who goes to the zoo for very first time. He has been village boy and all he knew was his small piece of land and his cattle. In the zoo he saw a giraffe. He was astounded and observed the giraffe with open mouth. After a while he just waved with hand and said: “Such animal does not exist!” And he impatiently ran back to his familiar farm and occupations. The point is that what does not exist in the cognitive system of the observer, is rapidly rejected. This is the approach of the contemporary “two dimensional” (as Ken Wilber says) science toward the mind manifestations she does not understand and can not measure with its tests, computer simulations and brain observations and so on… But I am carrying away. I think for successful outcome of the therapy it is crucial internal locus of control to be achieved! Behind this LOC stays the free will of the Human Being! The other important issue in the therapy besides desensitizing and speech techniques is gaining of emotional intelligence! Without it one strong internal locus can even worsen the stuttering, because the higher motivation would confront the negative emotions, they would be pushed out in the unconsciousness and return as stronger stuttering. My opinion is that without gaining stable internal locus of control no stable results can be acquired!
