Hi Lindsay. Stuttering does affect our lives. In a small way for some, while having a major impact on others. For some it's the stuttering itself, for others it's the way he/she is being seen and treated. When I graduated I realized I turned into someone else and that person wasn't liked by anyone, even less by myself. But suddenly people came on my path who saw beyond my stutter and brought back the real me. Gave me confidence by seeing what I could do, instead of what I could not do. I not only hid the real me for others, but also for myself. Not until I became me, I got friends. True friends. When you hide, there is no way for people to get to know you. The only thing they will know about you is your stutter. So show yourself! Show your skills, show your personality and in this way, put your stutter behind your personality and not the other way around. This is hard, so kids need all the help they can get to tell them how GREAT they are, give them the words and the confidence to talk about stuttering, to help them meet other PWS and to get hope for the future. And that's why I'm so hppy for SLPs like you asking us these questions. :-) Keep talking! Anita
