Hi Lourdes. You're right. It takes a lot of energy to hide your problems, to hide your personality, to hide your speech. And it's a huge step to decide to do so. I tried to explain in the beginning, but the reactions to that were so negative, I chose to "not bother" people, but not talking about it and not showing it. But not all people actively decide this. You sense people's reactions and act upon that. Some people act in a way that makes others wake up and react. Others just "disappear". And those people are not being seen or heard! This is why there is so much bullying that is not being seen and so little know about stuttering. Most people WANT to help, but how can they, if they don't realize there is a prolem? What would have helped if I had someone else to help me talk. A book(let) or a movie to give them. Knowing my rights to get help and support in school. It's a tough job to explain something that even clinicians have a hard time explaining PLUS explaining all the stuff inside, so help is needed. That's where self help groups, personal stories AND you come in! Please help us to keep talking! Anita
