Hi Leeanne. it was not the fear of being different. I WAS different, as no one else stuttered. And as a teen you either want to be completely diffent, or being "one of them". I was neither... When I graduated I felt more alone than ever before and was on the edge of breaking down, but, as you can read in my previous replies (please read!), I found people who took me along just when I needed them the most. Than I got angry for all lost years and claimed my right to speak. I think people are more accepting and understanding today, because stuttering is finally coming out in the open. PWS talk more, there are more documentaries, self help groups are more visible etc. So I can't say it often enough: Keep talking!!! Anita
