Thanks Judy for your comments and question. If you consider reading out loud to your dog as unusual, than there it is. At least we assumed he practiced! Frankly, nothing else stands out in my memory along these lines, but this design certainly lends itself to discovering situational avoidances. To give one example that is currently in progress, I have a client, who on paper was very willing to carry out his speech task with his parents and older brother at home, but when it came down to following through and reporting on his progress the next week in therapy, the issue surfaced in that my client was afraid to ask his brother for help. He was afraid his brother would say "no". I know this family well now, so the following week, with a little counseling during our session, I asked if it would be all right if we could all (parents and brother) meet at the end of therapy and try to work out a plan of action. When the parents came to pick up my client, the brother came as well. We had a productive family meeting where my client and his brother negotiated how they would help each other...."if I do this for you, then you can do this for me" scenario. The jury is still out on the success of this plan as I have not seen my client in a few weeks....and not due to avoiding therapy by the way! If this plan doesn't work at home, we can always bring brother to the therapy setting or try to find the right combination of who, what, when, where that my client is more likely to be successful with, besides his parents. You follow your client's lead and change whatever steps you need to get to the next level. Thanks Judy for all you've done for us and ISAD! Joanie
