Thank you for the question. I wouldn't use this approach with younger children or should I say, children who haven't yet developed negative responses and attitudes that come from a string of situational memories of fluency failure. I feel children who are old enough to choose and create reasonable challenges for themselves by speaking at whatever level of fluency or stuttering that may happen, who can tolerate the consequences of their attempts because they have enough understanding of what is happening on the inside and outside of them, and who are supported by a few significant people in their lives (of course the more people the better) in addition to their clinician, stand a better chance of altering and improving their belief system, and their attitude about stuttering, therapy, and themselves.
