Hi Kate- Thanks for you question and nice comments. Depending on the client, we can a lot of role play before the PWS tries a step on the hierarchy. On occasion I have videotaped these role plays so the PWS can review how he or she did. In terms of going out into the real world, we do have a coffee shop nearby and there are a few clients I have taken down there. Actually, the coffee shop is a great place to go with adolescents. They usually "make a hierarchy" for me and tell me to stutter on purpose when I order my drink. Since I don't stutter this is great because it allows me to walk a mile in their shoes and I have to show them that I too have the courage to practice what I preach. Believe me, it is not easy. But that is a topic for another paper I guess!
