ome do and some don't. For a number of patients, neurogenic stuttering seems to be a passing problem that only lasts a few days or weeks. For others it is indeed a chronic problem, that sometimes overshadows all other physical or cognitive problems. There has been some speculation that chronic acquired stuttering is more associated with more severe brain disorders, such as multiple strokes, or with bilateral lesions as opposed to unilateral lesions which may result in more transient forms of stuttering. But we don't have good objective data to test whether this is true or not.
