Heidi - most patients that we have seen are aware of their fluency problems. For some it really is a big deal and they show the same negative attitudes seen in some persons with developmental stuttering. For other patients, they are aware but it does not seem to be a big deal for them in that it does not inhibit them from speaking socially. Often, they find their other physical and health problems to be a bigger issue.
