There is some evidence that different etiologies result in different disfluency behaviours - I have provided a review and discussion of that in my latest chapter published in Conture & Curlee (2007) Stuttering and Related Disorders of Fluency - I think the discussion there will do more justice to this complex question and a quick response here.
