I think most SLPs will indeed use a treatment approach also used for developmental stuttering as that is what they are trained to do. It is possible that for some patients, other treatments such as medication, may work well or better but of course that is not something that we can prescribe or administer. Other forms of treatments used are biofeedback, but these need specialized treatment. Unless we are convinced they work better, I think few people will go to the effort/expense of receiving that training.
